On behalf of the New Canaan YMCA Annual Campaign Committee, we are writing to ask our fellow community members to please join us in supporting our Y.
There’s a special feeling when you walk through the doors of the Y. It’s the feeling of togetherness and support. Every day, over 1,000 different community members visit the Y and they represent all ages, all abilities, different backgrounds, different needs, and different goals.
When we visit the Y, we’re often there for a specific personal purpose: a program for our child, a yoga class, a swim, a game of pickleball with friends, etc. What we may not realize though are all the amazing things taking place throughout the facility at the same time.
Within the daily hustle and bustle of the Y, life-changing moments are happening every day, and donations make these incredible moments possible.
Members of our community who are undergoing or who have recently completed treatment for cancer are coming totheYasapartofitsfree Livestrong program. Through this program, they are regaining physical and emotional strength while making friendships and lasting bonds with fellow cancer survivors.
Children and adults with special needs have a home away from home at the Y in a welcoming and supportive environment. Through programs, events, and employment opportunities, individuals of all abilities are embraced and develop skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships.
Every day at the Y, our community’s seniors are remaining socially connected and maintaining physical activity through specially designed classes, lectures, and monthly gatherings.
And throughout the entire facility and different programs, there are members who may be struggling financially, but are able to support their physical and mental health, stay connected with others, and have their children participate in programs thanks to the Y’s financial assistance program, which provides over $200,000 in assistance every year.
For 70 years, the Y has been the place where our community comes together. No matter our need, background, or stage in life, we can always count on the Y. And while our visits may f luctuate over the years, we know the Y will always be there for us when we need it.
