New Canaan Loves Kami Evans for State Senate | LETTER

Since the first day I met Kami Evans, she’s been all about love. Her love for her children came through as we stood in a parking lot in New Canaan talking about her daughter being a new kid in school. She almost always finishes her conversations asking if she can give you a hug, and the words “I love you” come easily to her. Kami connects with people, and she has boundless energy. Frequently, we never meet our elected representatives, they are a name we see on signs during election season. If she becomes our State Senator from District 26, it is almost a certainty that you will meet Kami and her irrepressible spirit at some point.

In New Canaan, we need State representatives who will work with our elected officials to defend the issues we believe are important to keeping New Canaan the town we know and love. This includes representatives willing to work with our First Selectman on zoning laws to keep out predatory developers who want to construct 100 unit buildings on Weed Street. Kami has made an incredible effort to get to know the elected officials in every town her Senate seat would cover. Oftentimes when you have a state representative with ideological differences with the First Selectman of your town, they may act in opposition to each other or not have a relationship at all. Kami has made it a point over the past several years to get to know the elected officials in New Canaan and develop strong bonds with their goals and ideals.

Kami is in a unique position for the districts that her Senate seat would cover, she’s lived in both New Canaan and Westport. Sometimes you have to live somewhere to understand precisely the issues that the town cares about, and Kami has done just that. She knows exactly what New Canaan needs in regards to State legislation, which includes legislation that helps, not hurts our wonderful police and keeps educational decision making with the administration in New Canaan instead of sending it to Hartford. Perhaps more importantly, she knows what New Canaan doesn’t need, which includes Democratic proposals to combine our school district with other towns like Darien and Norwalk and liberal proposals to force small towns to build huge buildings as a blunt force tool to cover for failures in big cities.

Kami’s children are still in school. She has to “eat her own cooking” and face the effects of legislation she champions for years to come. I’m proud to post my super large Kami signs in front of my house, and I am proud to give my endorsement to Kami Evans for State Senate in District 26.
