New Canaan High School’s esteemed football coach, Lou Marinelli, will address the New Canaan Men’s Club on June 14. The meeting is scheduled for Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, located at 111 Oenoke Ridge. This engagement follows Marinelli’s recent triumph in leading the team to its second consecutive Class L championship last December.
Coach Marinelli, now in his 42nd season with the New Canaan Rams, began his tenure in 1981. In 2017, he secured his place in history by achieving his 332nd career victory, making him the winningest coach in Connecticut high school football. Last season, he extended his record to 374 wins, further solidifying his legacy.
The Men’s Club meeting will commence at 10 a.m., with Marinelli slated to speak at approximately 10:40 a.m., following the business portion of the session. The club is open to men aged 55 and older, and those interested in joining can reach out via email at ncmens@ncmens.club.
Marinelli’s distinguished career includes multiple Coach of the Year accolades from the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference, as well as national recognition from the National Football Foundation. His accolades include Hall of Fame Coach of the Year honors. Marinelli holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Springfield College. Before his tenure at New Canaan, he coached several high school teams in New York and served as an assistant football coach at Boston College.
Under Marinelli’s leadership, New Canaan has produced notable talents such as Zach Allen and Lucas Niang, both of whom have progressed to the NFL. Niang has notably contributed to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl successes.
This event presents an opportunity for community members to hear from a legendary figure in high school sports and to learn about the storied history of New Canaan football under Marinelli’s guidance.
