Wondering what a black truck decorated with brightly colored golf balls on its side is doing around town? It’s the main prize for the upcoming Color Drop! Not only is the Color Drop a fun event for the entire community, it’s an important fundraiser that will support some amazing and deserving New Canaan High School Students.
On Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 am, a helicopter will rise over Waveny Park and drop 2000 colored, numbered golf balls over a target. The balls that land closest to the bullseye win a prize, including the 2024 Chevy Colorado (courtesy of Karl Chevrolet), a $2000 Walter Stewart’s Gift Card, a piece of art by Tonk, an 84 Sports Gift Basket, Steve Benko Pool Passes, and more!
All money raised is used to endow the New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation (NCSF), which began in 1967.
Steffi Loomis, Chair of the NCSF, noted that many New Canaan students have a need for scholarship money. “These are incredibly qualified kids for whom college is almost impossible unless they get help.”
Each year, need-based scholarships are awarded to deserving NCHS graduates who are pursuing higher education at the undergraduate level. In 2023 the Scholarship Foundation distributed $150,000 to 41 deserving graduates and post graduates of NCHS an average scholarship of $3,658.
Students are awarded an NCSF Scholarship based on income and merit, and must submit a comprehensive application. Recent NCSF-supported students have gone on to Stamford, Cornell, UCONN, Penn State, NYU, and Fairfield University.
The Color Drop is in its 4th year, and is offering a truck as the Grand Prize for the first time! There are a total of 12 prizes, and all are from New Canaan-based businesses and sponsors including Karl Chevrolet, Walter Stewart’s, Tonk Fine Art, 84 Sports, the Steve Benko Pool, the Mead Park Pickleball Courts, Zumbachs, The Glass House, Elm Street Books, and Grace Farms.
This family event will feature the mascots from all 5 New Canaan schools, one of the few times they are all together in one place!
Only 2000 balls will be sold, and winners do not need to be present to win. 100% of all funds raised will go towards need-based college scholarships for NCHS graduates.
