New Canaan welcomed the Year of the Dragon in style on Saturday, 10 February, as the Organization of Chinese Americans’ Fairfield Chapter (OCAFC) brought a colorful celebration to town. The Jim & Dede Bartlett Auditorium + Community Room was packed with guests getting into the holiday spirit, wearing red — a lucky colour — and exchanging greetings of “Gong Xi Fa Cai!” Mandarin students from the High School performed an exciting dragon dance, and members of the CT Chinese Dance Group treated the crowd to two different routines of traditional dance. Guests could also learn about traditions and customs from displays made my the Mandarin students. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed delicious noodles, rolls and dumplings from chef Alan Lee of New Canaan’s Ching’s Table restaurant. OCAFC Miriam Yeung told the crowd the chapter has been around for thirty years and their mission is to advance the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs in Fairfield County.
