New Canaan Runs in First Indoor Track Meet of the Year

New Canaan’s boys varsity team demonstrated impressive speed, endurance, and skill at the FCIAC Qualifying Meet. The competition, featuring top athletes across various disciplines, witnessed New Canaan securing top positions and delivering noteworthy performances across the board.

In the 600 Meters Varsity race, Cooper Colthup of New Cannan, secured the top spot with an impressive time of 1:36.90. Colthup’s strategic approach and unwavering focus highlighted his prowess in the longer sprints. Teammates Pierce Parkhill and Cormac Kilkenny displayed their own skills, showing New Canaan’s talent in the middle-distance events.

Faizal Zakir Hussain dominated the 1000 Meters Varsity race, securing the top spot for New Canaan with a time of 2:56.90. Hussain’s impressive pace demonstrates his skill in the middle-distance category, earning valuable points for the team. Colin Smith and Andrew Reed added to the team’s success with their solid performances.

The 45 Meter Dash Varsity event set the tone for New Canaan’s success. Kyle Shooshan showcased his lightning-fast speed, securing a respectable 7th place with a time of 6.20 seconds. Among the crowded field, Hugo Smith, Benjamin Kim, and Pierce Parkhill also demonstrated their agility, contributing to the team’s strong presence in the sprint.

Moving on to the 300 Meters Varsity race, Jason Miller of Wilton emerged as the top performer with a blazing time of 39.80 seconds. New Canaan’s Cooper Colthup also performed well, securing a commendable 6th place with a time of 42.40 seconds.

Liam Gonzalez made his mark in the 1 Mile Varsity race, claiming the third spot with a time of 6:11.20. Gonzalez’s consistent effort and competitive spirit added crucial points to New Canaan’s overall tally. In the 2 Miles Varsity, John Disturco showed off his endurance in the longer-distances, taking the top spot with a time of 11:22.70.

The field events were no less intense, with Carter Sihpol showcasing his strength in the Shot Put Varsity event, winning second place with a throw distance of 41′ 1.5. In the Long Jump Varsity event, Kyle Shooshan leaped to a distance of 17′ 0, securing the second place and adding valuable points to the team’s total.

New Canaan’s representation in the Pole Vault Varsity event was notable, with Joshua Herman taking the second place home by clearing a height of 7′ 6. Herman’s technical skills were key contributors to the team’s success in the field events.

In the High Jump Varsity event, Emmanuel Then Rojas of Norwalk claimed the top spot with a jump of 5′ 6, while New Canaan’s Kyle Shooshan took second place with an impressive jump of 4′ 10.

As the FCIAC Qualifying Meet concludes, the boys varsity team of New Canaan delivered an outstanding performance throughout the event. Their commitment to excellence and competitive spirit sets an encouraging tone for the upcoming events. Heading into Christmas break the team will compete in the North Shore HS Invitational on Sat, Dec 23, at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory. After Christmas break, the varsity team will move onto meets such as the 7th Wilton Wright Invitational on Jan 2, followed by the 9th Wintergreen Invitational on Thu, Jan 4, and the FCIAC Qualifying Meet W2A on Sat, Jan 6. This season in Indoor Track and Field is shaping up to be a fantastic performance!
