LETTER | Lauren Connolly Nussbaum for New Canaan Board of ED

It is with great enthusiasm that I convey my support for Lauren Connolly Nussbaum who is a candidate for the New Canaan Board of Education. I have known Lauren since my family and I moved to New Canaan five years ago. I cannot think of someone more qualified to serve in such an important role as ensuring that our children receive the best education possible.

Lauren’s passion and commitment to New Canaan touches just about every facet of the community. I first witnessed her dedication at Orchard Field in Waveny Park where she coached my daughter’s 2nd grade softball team. Her enthusiasm to teach and empower kids was infectious.

Lauren’s leadership extends beyond the fields at Waveny to the halls of New Canaan’s schools. She served as Board President and Vice President of New Canaan Community Preschool, South School PTC Board of Education Liaison and Co-Chair of the 2022-23 annual campaign at Saxe Middle School. She possesses the temperament, experience and administrative skills to work collaboratively across the town’s many constituents – teachers, administrators, parents and students – to address important issues facing New Canaan schools: safety and security, retaining the best teachers and administrators and investing in new technology. She is extremely fair-minded and is always willing to listen to another person’s point of view in order to find the right solution.

Aside from her many professional accomplishments, what really strikes me is her compassion for and dedication to special needs students. Last year I was blown away by a speech she gave at the conclusion of the 10:00 am Mass at St. Aloysius where she spoke passionately about the vital importance of the Special Needs Ministry based on her own family’s experience, strength and hope. She has been on the front lines fighting for all students, no matter what stage of their personal and academic development.

Lauren comes from a family with a long history of state and local public service, where giving back is just as important as getting ahead. Most importantly, she understands that local government has no greater obligation than to empower its children to become the best versions of themselves, in New Canaan and beyond!
