Aldrich Museum

By Julie O’Brien Deasy

Question: Can you suggest some local attractions that would be good to visit this summer?

Answer: Continuing last week’s series about good summer excursions in our area, this week’s featured spot is the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield.

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary art, featuring works by emerging and established artists including sculpture, art, photography and more.

The Aldrich is unique in that it is a non-collecting museum, so the works are completely changed out with each exhibit. It is also the only museum in Connecticut that is dedicated solely to the exhibition of contemporary art.

The campus includes a two-acre outdoor Sculpture Garden, which is currently under construction. It is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2025 and will be free of charge to visit.

Over the summer, the Alrdich hosts several children’s programs including a storytime every third Saturday of the month (admission is free that day), open studio time, and weekly camps for students in grades K-6 where they will participate in art-making workshops and activities.

The museum also hosts public tours, artist presentations and talks, and art discussions and educational sessions about the current exhibitions.

The Alrdich is open everyday except Tuesday. Admission is free for children under 13, and for everyone on the third Saturday of every month. Advanced tickets are encouraged.
