On Sunday, June 2nd, the New Canaan Museum and Historical Society hosted their 33rd Annual Ice Cream Social. The event, held on a sunny early summer day, attracted a record-breaking crowd.

The Town Band provided music throughout the event, contributing to a lively atmosphere. Children participated in historic games, including sack races, hoop rolling, and tug-of-war, with prizes awarded for their efforts.

A key feature of the event was the antique car show, which included classic cars and fire engines. The “People’s Choice Awards” even allowed attendees to vote for their favorite vehicles.

Ice cream, one could say, was the essential element of the social, and generously donated by Gofer Ice Cream, now owned by Phil and Mina Luongo. The New Canaan Exchange Club served the ice cream, offering a range of flavors alongside cake.

The event highlighted the community’s appreciation for tradition and provided an opportunity for socializing and family fun. The museum staff and volunteers worked to ensure the event ran smoothly, contributing to its success. Families and friends gathered on the museum grounds, enjoying the activities and treats.

The Annual Ice Cream Social continues to be a significant event for New Canaan, fostering community spirit and offering enjoyable activities for all ages. Attendees look forward to this event each year, anticipating the music, games, antique cars, and, of course, the ice cream.
