PRESS RELEASE

Members of the New Canaan Beautification League’s Traveling Trowels team, led by Faith Kerchoff, proudly stand in front of the Schoolhouse Apartments on South Avenue. The volunteers have dedicated their time and efforts to revitalize the landscape of this historic site. Pictured with them are some of the nearly 100 new plants that have been carefully selected and planted to create a vibrant pollinator garden. Their hard work includes planting large bushes and trees along the north border and a variety of plants next to the recreation areas. This project marks the beginning of a multi-year plan to enhance the property’s aesthetic and ecological value, contributing to the community’s overall beauty and charm. The Schoolhouse Apartments, originally a junior high school built in the early 1930s, now serves as a senior housing facility managed by Elderly Housing Management, reflecting a transformation over decades.
