The New Canaan Garden Club (NCGC) is thrilled to announce the spectacular burst of color unfolding in Irwin Park, thanks to their annual daffodil planting project. NCGC, known for its dedication to the community and conservation efforts, takes immense pride in stewarding Irwin Park, transforming it into a sea of vibrant yellow daffodils each spring.

This long standing tradition, carried out every fall, sees the dedicated members of NCGC planting thousands of daffodil bulbs throughout Irwin Park. Over the years, an impressive 40,000 bulbs have been carefully placed in the park’s landscape, creating a breathtaking display that captures the essence of spring.

Irwin Park, a beloved community treasure opened in 2005, has become synonymous with a serene retreat for residents. Its 36 acres of lush lawns, meadows, and orchards offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Visitors are welcomed to stroll along the environmentally friendly Flexi-pave trail, which winds its way around the park for nearly a mile, providing a safe haven for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and even cross-country skiers.

One of the park’s most enchanting features is its iconic Great Lawn, where thousands of daffodils are added each year by the NCGC. This visual feast of vibrant yellow blooms sets the stage for picnics, relaxation, and cherished moments with friends and family.

The NCGC kindly requests that all park-goers enjoy the daffodils during their visit and pay it forward for the next visitors by resisting the temptation to pick them. These daffodils are a gift to the entire community, and if everyone were to take them home, there would be none left to brighten the park for all to savor.

Additionally, NCGC has overseen the creation of a wildflower meadow in the northwest section of the park, adding to the park’s natural beauty. Visitors are encouraged to return often to enjoy the visual splendor of the meadow during the summer months.

Irwin Park is a true people sanctuary, where visitors can find solace, beauty, and the simple pleasure of connecting with nature.

NCGC invites the entire community to witness the breathtaking display of daffodils in Irwin Park this spring and encourages everyone to cherish the park’s natural wonders while preserving them for future generations.
