PRESS RELEASE

Women Empowering Women, the New Canaan-based non-profit, works with women facing life challenges to help identify a pathway for healing and developing healthy self-esteem to enhance all areas of their lives. The organization’s mission is based on a foundation of eight pillars: Family and Friends, Self Confidence, Behavioral Health, Financial Literacy, Education, Career, Physical Health and Wellness and Spirituality.

In this first of a series of articles, we will explore how Women Empowering Women provides resources and support within the pillar of Family and Friends: Creating a Cohesive Community.

At Women Empowering Women, we believe that to be truly empowered, it’s important to develop healthy relationships, embrace self-care, and discover one’s life purpose. This begins with family and community — understanding relationships and interactions and identifying the importance of learning skills that can help us improve circumstances and function well when faced with challenges. When we focus our awareness in this area, we can expand possibilities and inspire and motivate ourselves and others. Healthy connections to family and the community can help us build on our strengths to be sustainable and self-sufficient and foster a sense of well-being to something greater than ourselves.

To help support a cohesive community, Women Empowering Women will be presenting a number of programs and events this spring, including

• April 24 – May 15th – “Navigating the Journey: A Mother’s Perspective”

A 4-week program designed for mothers who are dealing with, and often living with, actively addicted older teen and adult children. The workshop will address substance abuse issues and impactful practices for daily living.

• May 14th – “Transition from high school to adulthood in the special needs community” panel discussion at the New Canaan Library

The panel will include Mary Harrison, author of “Autism Grows Up,” Dottie Jankowski, Director of Family Support Services at STAR, Inc., and Special Education Advocate Anne Munkenbeck.

Additionally, Women Empowering Women hosts local events that bring women together to foster connections, socialization, and fun. Our second Ladies Night Out (LNO) is planned at Pesca on May 7th , produced by local entertainer, Rachel

Lampern of Rock, Paper, Scissors Custom Events. More information on this event will be available in the coming weeks. Mark your calendar now and tell your friends.
