Connecticut’s professional arts scene is growing with the launch of Connecticut Stage Company last fall, a non-profit theatre company based in New Canaan dedicated to producing quality theatrical performances with and for its community. Co-founders Lorah Haskins, owner of the The Studio for Performing Arts, and Kate Simone, actor, director and long-time New Canaan resident, are bringing more theatre productions to a community that loves the arts.
Continuing on its successful, sold out premiere production of Into the Woods in Concert last October, Connecticut Stage Company is producing their second show, Little Women in Concert
(April 27 & 28 at the New Canaan Library). The show will star 2 time Tony Award nominee, Kate Baldwin (Hello, Dolly!, Big Fish, Finian’s Rainbow) as Marmee and Kennedy Caughell (Wicked, Great Comet, Beautiful) as Jo March. The cast will also include Kelly Gabrielle Murphy (Fiddler on the Roof Nat’l Tour) as Meg, Francesca Mehrotra as Beth, Cara Rose DiPietro as Amy, Ethan Riordan as Laurie, Michael F. McGuirk as Professor Bhaer, Jack Shapiro as John Brooke, Donna Schilke as Aunt March and William Squier as Mr. Laurence. A talkback with Little Women lyricist Mindi Dickstein will follow the performance on April 28.
Directed by Kate Simone, music direction by Ari Goldbloom-Helzner, choreography by Chris McNiff, and executive produced by Lorah Haskins, Little Women will be co-produced by New Canaan Library.
Book by Allan Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, music by Jason Howland, and based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Little Women the story follows the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, and their beloved Marmee in Concord, Massachusetts during the Civil War.
“We are beyond thrilled to be bringing incredible professional actors to New Canaan for Little Women. We feel so lucky to have Broadway stars Kate Baldwin playing Marmee and Kennedy Caughell playing Jo. Don’t miss your chance to see this talent right on the New Canaan Library stage.” – co-founder and director, Kate Simone
“We are simply delighted to be bringing this perennial story to life on stage for our community.
Over 150 years ago, Louisa May Alcott’s words inspired a new generation of independent minds, an impact still incredibly prevalent today. Allan Knee (book), Jason Howland (music), and Mindi Dickstein (lyrics) have taken a story that is still so relevant and adapted it into this stunning musical. We are honored to have these brilliant performers bring these words to life and to have Mindi join us for a talkback following Sunday’s show for a more in-depth dive into their interpretations.” – co-founder and producer, Lorah Haskins
