On April 4th at 7:00 PM in the Saxe Middle School Gym, New Canaan CARES, in collaboration with New Canaan Public Schools, St. Luke’s School, and New Canaan Country School, will host a thought-provoking discussion titled “Social Media and Your Kids” featuring Max Stossel, a renowned speaker from socialawakening.org.
Stossel is known for his insightful perspectives on the impact of technology and social media on society. On April 4 and 5, Max will speak to students at New Canaan Country School, Saxe Middle School, New Canaan High School, and St. Luke’s School during the school day. On the evening of April 4th, he will engage parents in a conversation addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital age. The event aims to equip parents with valuable insights and strategies to navigate the complex landscape of social media and its influence on children.
The initiative stems from New Canaan CARES’ commitment to empowering youth, strengthening families, and fostering community connections. Reflecting on their mission, Executive Director Colleen Prostor emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in bringing unique programs to the community. “We really love to partner with schools and other local nonprofit organizations to bring dynamic programming to New Canaan. Thankfully, we’re able to have the full support of the community to fulfill our mission and do what we do,” she said.
The upcoming April 4th event highlights the necessity for discussions regarding the impact of social media on children. As technology becomes more ingrained in daily life, parents face the challenge of weighing its advantages against potential drawbacks. Stossel’s expertise offers valuable insights for parents navigating these complexities. Colleen highlighted the importance of addressing timely issues in a manner that resonates with children and parents. She stated, “We’re bringing people a program that empowers the youth and also strengthens families. We give them an opportunity to have conversations after these events and build and connect our community by having community-wide programs where everybody is welcome.”
The conversation with Max Stossel is part of a broader effort by New Canaan CARES to address pressing issues facing families today. Following the event, the organization will continue the conversation with smaller, more focused programs for different age groups. These include “Kids and Tech: Tips to Develop Healthy Digital Habits” on April 23 and “Technology and Tweens: the Big Three,” scheduled for April 25th.
New Canaan CARES extends its gratitude to the community for their support, emphasizing that all programming is made possible through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and supporters. In an evolving digital landscape, initiatives like the upcoming conversation with Max Stossel are crucial platforms for education, discussion, and community engagement.
Registration for the event is currently open on the New Canaan CARES website, newcanaancares.org. Interested participants are encouraged to secure their spots early, as seating is limited.
