Connecticut’s primary elections for the U.S. Presidency are scheduled for April 2, 2024, with the Republican and Democratic parties conducting their respective selection processes. Eligibility to participate in these primaries is limited to voters who are enrolled members of the corresponding party.

A notable feature of this election cycle is the introduction of Early Voting in Connecticut. This will be conducted in the Town Hall Registrars Office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 26, 27, 28, and 30. This is the first occurrence of Early Voting in the state, providing an alternative to traditional in-person voting on Primary Day.

The in-person voting on April 2 is organized across three designated polling places. District 1 voters will cast their ballots at New Canaan High School; Districts 2 and 3 at Saxe Middle School; and Districts 4, 5, and 6 at East School. These locations will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with clear signage for parking and entrances.

Absentee Voting is also available, with ballots provided by the Town Clerk, Claudia Weber, starting March 12. Further details on the absentee voting process can be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office.

The election rules permit seventeen-year-olds to register and vote in the Primary, provided they will be 18 years old by November 2, 2024. The deadline for such individuals to register or enroll in a party is 12 noon on April 1, 2024. Registration can be completed in person, by mail, or through the State Voter Registration website.

For those intending to use Early Voting, registration or party enrollment must be completed by noon on the day before their planned voting. Unaffiliated voters have until noon, March 25, to enroll in a party, but are not eligible for Early Voting and must vote in person on April 2.

The deadline to register or enroll for in-person voting on April 2 is also April 1, 2024.

The Secretary of State has certified the list of candidates for the primary ballots. The Republican Party candidates are Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Donald Trump, and Ryan Binkley. The Democratic Party candidates are Marianne Williamson, Dean Phillips, Cenk Uygur, and Joe Biden.
