Congressman Himes recently attended a Staying Put New Canaan event at Waveny House. “How we care for our elderly citizens says a lot about our values. That’s why I was grateful to spend a morning with Staying Put New Canaan, a social organization that provides programming for residents aged 65 and older to live confidently in their homes and engage meaningfully with their community as they age,” Himes stated.
In 2006 New Canaan residents who appreciated the community, its resources and history, and who were committed to living independently as they grew older aspired to bring the “aging in place” concept to New Canaan. Aging in place is a term used to describe people living in the residence of their choice as they age for as long as they are able.
In 2008 Staying Put in New Canaan was founded to help seniors live confidently in their homes and actively engaged in the community as they age.
There is a network of 250 aging in place villages in operation across the United States, with over 60 in development. Staying Put in New Canaan is considered the premiere suburban model, producing innovative programs and services, participating in strategic discussions on issues related to “aging in place,” and providing guidance to nascent villages.
