The New Canaan Library’s esteemed Spring Edition literary fundraiser returns this year with an exciting program featuring bestselling author Vanessa Chan. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be hosted for the first time at the newly constructed New Canaan Library, marking a significant moment for the community and the library’s history.

This year’s Spring Edition will commence with a Malaysian-themed buffet luncheon, meticulously catered by Marcia Selden Catering. The luncheon will be set up under a tent on the Anderson terrace, offering guests a unique dining experience. Notably, the event’s seating arrangement is informal, with no assigned seating or tables, encouraging a relaxed and interactive atmosphere.

The highlight of the event is an author talk and book signing session in the Jim and Dede Bartlett Auditorium, featuring Vanessa Chan. Chan will discuss her captivating debut novel “The Storm We Made,” a story set during World War II. It follows a Malayan mother who turns into an unlikely spy for the invading Japanese forces, exploring the profound consequences her actions have on her family and community. The novel has gained significant attention, including being picked by the Good Morning America, GMA Book Club.

In addition to celebrating literature, the event will honor Christine Noyer Seaver, Vice President of the New Canaan Library Board of Trustees, for her exceptional service to the library. This gesture underscores the event’s role not only as a literary celebration but also as an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of individuals vital to the library’s success.

Individual tickets for the Spring Edition 2024 are now available for purchase online. Each ticket includes a copy of “The Storm We Made,” adding value to the attendees’ experience. The proceeds from this event will directly benefit the New Canaan Library, with all donations being tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses wishing to support this esteemed community event.

The Spring Edition has a history of featuring notable authors in its past events, including Douglas Stuart, the 2020 Booker Prize winner for “Shuggie Bain,” Tayari Jones, author of “An American Marriage” (2019), and Min Jin Lee, author of “Pachinko” (2018). This tradition underscores the event’s reputation as a significant literary gathering in the region.
