Kathy Giusti, a two-time cancer survivor and influential figure in healthcare, will be discussing her new book, “Fatal to Fearless: 12 Steps to Beating Cancer in a Broken Medical System,” at New Canaan Library. The event, featuring a conversation with journalist Lee Woodruff, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m.
Giusti, recognized by Time magazine as one of the Most Influential People and by Fortune Magazine as one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders, has made significant contributions in the medical and business sectors. Having survived a fatal cancer diagnosis nearly thirty years ago, she founded the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and co-chaired the Harvard Business School (HBS) Kraft Precision Medicine Accelerator. Her work has extended to collaborations with three U.S. presidents in the fight against cancer.
“Fatal to Fearless” is both a memoir and a practical guide. It chronicles Giusti’s journey of taking on a flawed healthcare system and leveraging it to her advantage. The book is structured around twelve essential steps for surviving a difficult diagnosis, including practical What To Dos (WTDs) based on Giusti’s extensive experience as a patient and a professional disrupting the healthcare system. These steps encompass a range of strategies from accessing the best diagnostics and treatments to disease prevention. The book also includes insights and practical advice from top medical experts who have been integral to Giusti’s journey.
Giusti’s personal story is a central element of “Fatal to Fearless.” She shares honest and sometimes challenging truths about her experiences with illness, family, friendship, marriage, and navigating the business aspects of medicine. The book draws from the thirty journals Giusti kept during her cancer treatment, providing a deep and resonant perspective on the impact of disease on patients and their families.
Elm Street Books will be present at the event, offering copies of “Fatal to Fearless” for purchase. Those interested in attending the discussion at New Canaan Library are encouraged to register at newcanaanlibrary.org
