Question: What’s going on at the Carriage Barn Arts Center this winter?
Answer: The Carriage Barn Arts Center, located in Waveny Park close to Waveny House, is operated by New Canaan Society for the Arts, a member-supported, non-profit cultural organization. Its mission is to promote the visual and performing arts, and to enrich the community through exhibitions, education, and cultural experiences.
The Carriage Barn Arts Center’s hosts numerous art exhibitions and events each year. These include an annual high school student show, the “Art in the Windows” event, which places art in retail shops in New Canaan, and many arts classes and workshops for both children and adults.
On February 12 from 4:00 – 5:15 pm, kids 5 and up can join a “Valentines Cupcake Decorating Workshop” where they will decorate and bring home four cupcakes with festive Valentine’s designs. This is a drop off class and all materials will be provided.
From Tuesday February 20 – Friday 23 from 9:30 am -12:00 pm, kids in grades K-5 can join a fun “Art Adventure” class. (This class is during February school break.) A variety of activities will be offered including painting, sculpture, and mixed media. This is a drop off class and all materials will be provided.
For adults, on Friday, February 23 at 7:00 pm, there will be a special night photography workshop where participants will first learn about night photography, and then will walk through Waveny Park practicing their technique. This workshop will take place on the eve of the full moon so there should be plenty to photograph!
Also for adults is a “Farm-To-Table” special brunch event on Sunday, March 3 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. This chef-crafted brunch will feature seasonal and local ingredients and food stations from many New Canaan Farmers Market vendors. Live music will also be provided. Your $75 ticket includes food, coffee, cocktails, and a kombucha bar.
In addition, the Carriage Barn offers many ongoing series of programming including printmaking, drawing, yoga, and music performances.
