We offer our enthusiastic endorsement for Dionna Carlson for First Selectman. She is exceptionally qualified, with a track record of dedicated service to our community, significant business acumen, and bipartisan leadership in her prior key role in education that comprises the vast majority of New Canaan’s budget. We have known Dionna and her lovely family through church and volunteer organizations and can attest to her generous character and ability to bring people together.
As a former Board of Education Chair, Dionna demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the educational well-being of our town’s children. She tirelessly represented New Canaan and our kids’ interests in legislative hearings in Hartford against state driven school regionalization, and consistently demonstrated the ability to listen and seek out solutions across party or community divides.
New Canaan faces significant challenges in maintaining our educational excellence, securing our economic vitality and limiting state encroachments on local development decisions; all while ensuring fiscal rectitude to keep taxes low so we retain the committed citizens we need to pay for the high quality schools and services we want. It is far too easy to take the beauty, safety and quality of New Canaan for granted. Strong civic leadership and thoughtful approaches are required.
