In a heartwarming display of unity, the town of New Canaan came together on October 1st to host the New Canaan Combine—a unique fundraising event aimed at battling pediatric cancer. The event was not just a competition but a demonstration of community spirit, bringing together the police, firemen, and other volunteers to make a positive impact. While the firemen emerged victorious in the fitness competition, the real victory was the amount raised from the event: over $150,000!

The New Canaan Combine was a day filled with camaraderie and fierce competition, all in the name of a great cause. One of the highlights of the event was the friendly rivalry between the police and firemen, who went head-to-head in a series of physical challenges. Although the Policemen managed to secure a win in a best-of-three tug-of-war event, the Firemen ultimately claimed victory for the day.

The event was more than just a fitness competition; it was a testament to the town’s commitment to fighting pediatric cancer. Chris Falsetta, who played a pivotal role in organizing the event, shared a powerful quote during the festivities: “In our community, three families in the last year have heard that their child has cancer… Our goal with the New Canaan Combine was first and foremost to create a community event, to do something positive, partner with our first responders, our civic leaders, and our neighbors to show these children and families that we care.”

Falsetta’s words resonated deeply with everyone present. Chris had founded the Gracie fund himself, with the driving factor for the creation of the Gracie fund was when his own daughter, Gracie, was diagnosed with Leukemia. The New Canaan Combine provided a platform for the community to come together, showing unwavering support for the children and families affected by pediatric cancer. Grace, a young cancer patient, along with her friends Timmy, Alex, and Leah, received a heartfelt round of applause during the event, symbolizing the town’s love and encouragement for these brave children.

The New Canaan Combine not only fostered a sense of togetherness but also raised essential funds for pediatric cancer care. Chris Falsetta introduced the Gracie Fund, inspired by his conversation with Dr. Massaro, a pediatric oncologist. Dr. Massaro had highlighted the challenges of funding a pediatric cancer massage program, designed to alleviate pain for palliative care and hospice patients. The Gracie Fund’s mission was to bridge the gaps in pediatric cancer care, focusing on unmet needs.

With the proceeds raised from the New Canaan Combine, the Gracie Fund was ready to make a significant impact. The funds would be directed towards launching the pediatric cancer massage program, ensuring that young patients receive much-needed pain relief and comfort during their difficult journey. Additionally, the Gracie Fund planned to initiate a medication compliance program and address other unmet needs in pediatric cancer care.

Chris Falsetta promised that the Gracie Fund would work diligently to deploy funds swiftly and effectively, without excessive bureaucracy. The ultimate goal was clear—to support the sick children in New Canaan’s own backyard, providing them with the care and resources they need in their battle against pediatric cancer.
The New Canaan Combine was more than just a fitness competition; it was a day filled with hope, community and a shared commitment to making a difference.

The event exemplified the power of a close-knit community coming together to tackle a pressing issue. By raising funds and awareness for pediatric cancer care, New Canaan showed that when they unite for a cause, they can achieve remarkable things. The New Canaan Combine will be remembered not only for the thrilling competition but for the lasting impact it had on the lives of the children and families affected by pediatric cancer.
