ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Bridge Closure: Ponus Ridge at Collins Pond (Effective until mid-December)

The bridge on Ponus Ridge at Collins Pond is currently under construction. Motorists must be aware that the road is closed to through traffic. Use the designated detours. Clearview Lane and Ponus Ridge House #s 1328 – 1510 are accessible from the South via Ponus Ridge past Greenley Road. For Toby’s Lane, Rippowam Road, and Ponus Ridge House #s 1528 and above, detours must be followed accessing from the north via Dans Highway.


Road Resurfacing/Repaving: Starting around September 15, 2023

The initial phase of road resurfacing projects has been completed. Repaving works for Harrison Avenue, Upper Main Street (Maple to Cherry Streets), and roads under construction for other infrastructure tasks (water, gas, and electric installations) are set to commence on or around September 15, 2023. For details regarding road system maintenance, contact the DPW at the provided number.


Sidewalk Updates:

Oenoke Ridge/Main Street: Sidewalk installation from Oenoke Lane to Heritage Hill has paused but will resume soon, continuing until completion.

Elm Street: Sidewalk replacement is ongoing from Park Street to the Train Station entrance, expected to last for about three weeks. Be prepared for alternating one-way traffic or short lane closures.

Richmond Hill Road: Starting approximately on 8/16/23, sidewalk construction from Mead Park Exit to Marshal Ridge will begin. The part crossing the railroad will be given priority during the railroad closure.


Aquarion Water Main Updates (Completion by mid-August):

  1. Lakeview Avenue: Main installation completed. Expect road closures, but local traffic and emergency vehicles will have access.
  2. Orchard Drive: Main installation finished. Expect road closures, with access for local traffic and emergency vehicles.
  3. Weed Street (Dunning Road to West Road): Completed main installation with daily road closures expected. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will have access.
  4. West Road (Sunset Hill Road to Greenley Road): David Tinker Excavating continues watermain replacement works on Weed Street from Dunning to West Road.

Aquarion 36” Water Transmission Line Updates:

July to September: Burns Construction will handle the installation of a 36” Water Transmission Line and a subsequent gas main in Little Brook Road, running from New Norwalk Road to Clapboard Hill Road. Note that Little Brook Road will be closed entirely to traffic for about a week from around 7/31/23. Residents are advised to use posted detours.

September to December: Work on Little Brook Road, including the intersection crossing, will be completed. The construction will then move towards Valley Road.


Eversource Gas Installation Update:

Several individual services will be managed as required. Major works within the downtown area will be scheduled during nighttime hours.
